Foreign governments were last night advising their citizens to leave the Ivory Coast immediately amid mounting tensions in the West African nation following a disputed presidential election.
The escalation of the travel advice warning followed an attack on a United Nations base by six masked gunmen as Laurent Gbagbo continued to defy international calls for him to accept defeat in the poll.
The United Nations said yesterday it has received hundreds of reports of people being abducted from their homes at night by armed assailants in military uniform and that there is growing evidence of "massive violations of human rights".
