Using an umpire lab is SOP, particularly when there's any doubt WRT accuracy.
I'm thinking it might be due to the unavailability of suitable QAQC Standards (Certified Reference Materials) at the lab - no surprise there given the presence of Au-PGE alloys.
It takes weeks to generate a batch of atypical CRMs.
