Of course many geologists would have seen it and reports would have been written HOWEVER those geologists would have been looking for anything else but rare earths. I.E. geologists looking for gold (or many other minerals) would note the presence of pegmatite but wouldn't give a rats ass about it because there was no interest in rare earths for them. Doesn't take too much to suss that out does it?
