Not everyone will think the same way, but for me I can either donate money to a cancer charity (i still do), or I can (at a paper loss) help fund a specific company that I feel has a strong chance of making a massive difference in the way we treat cancer in the future.

If I donated to charity, I'm actually paying for the salaies and running costs of the charity, which can be quite large. The 'net profits' are then donated to actual organisations or companies looking to help fight cancer.

If I inject my cash into CHM, I am also paying for the salaries and running costs of CHM. But CHM is the 'actual organisation or company' looking to help fight cancer.

In effect, I am cutting out the middle man by selecting the company I want to help and thus believe my funds are being better used for the ultimate goal of one day finding a cure cancer.

And of course buying on market doesn't really achieve this.. but a retail offer gives me a chance to do the above.
