Like I said, I am sharing my thought process. I am sure many have been touched by cancer, and I am no different - in fact I am going through it right now with someone I love dearly. I am choosing to put money to buy shares at an immediate paper loss. That is an intentional choice that is not entirely based on making money.
Also I am not putting charities in a bad light, nor anyone working for one. In fact I have been involved with the Cancer Council so I know the costs involved to run a charity, and indeed the pro-bono work that goes into it not only from Directors, but other partities such as the auditors.
But the reality is that they do cost money to run, so not all donations go directly to an organisation looking to cure cancer, or provide support or care for those impacted.
What I stated was factual, and so is the reality that there are alternative ways to support organisiations looking for a cure for cancer. That is all I am highlighting, but you obviously took it the wrong way.
So think about it this way, if my goal is to help find a cure for cancer.. I can donate $100k to a charity, and say costs of running that charity (salaries, marketing etc) eat up 25% of that $100k, then only $75k make it to actual organisations doing the research or providing care / support to those suffering or impacted from cancer.
Instead, I can put at risk $100k into funding the operations of an organisation directly doing the research to find a cure for cancer.
So if my goal is to put my $100k to the best use possible and allocating it directly to a company I believe has a good chance to cure some forms of cancer, then I dare say putting it into a retail offer such as this is IMO an effective way of achieving what I wanted to do with my $100k.
And to be clear, I haven't lost any money on CHM. My investment is a long term one, and I will be holding until I find out if they really have the goods.. or if it is not going to happen. But either way, I am helping the company have a crack at it.. and by no means throwing shade at charities raising funds for cancer reserach. If I end up losing all my money, that is a risk I am willing to take. So are many other companies and organisations looking to find a cure for cancer, in fact most have failed... only recently have we seen success in the CAR-T field in blood cancers. CHM is following up with solid cancers in the CAR-T field, so I'm here to support them.
