BHP isn’t breaking up with Canada, but it’s definitely looking to see other people.

In a recent interview with The Globe & Mail, BHP’s CEO shared some concerns with Canada.

    They’re worth paying attention to:
    - Broken promises about speeding up mining processes
    - 17 years to get mining permits
    - An expected 25-year timeline to move from discovery to production
    - Tougher regulations on acquisitions and major deals

These aren’t small issues, and they highlight real challenges for mining in Canada.
But I suspect there is another layer to this story.

This entire interview probably wasn’t directed at the current government.

Instead, its intended audience is the next government and what a company committed to investing $20 billion in Canadian mining wants to prioritize.
