    you can try and tell yourself that, but its just not the case.

    for example, RIO's Arglye diamond mine in Kununurra has been in operation since 1985. It was only in 2003 that they established an Indigenous land use agreement and is still recognized as one of the most significant and beneficial compared to all others across the country.

    Despite the millions per year provided by RIO (edit: approx 25million over the last 4 years) to the local community they are still plagued by poverty, poor education, alcoholism. Argyle even have a indigenous employment policy with almost 20% of the workforce local.

    with the mine due to close in 2020 where does this leave the community?

    and if this is the best we can do in australia with one of the biggest player on the market .... how do you think it will pan out in the middle of the Amazon?
