I wonder if there is a case that, as long as the stock isn't being traded and therefore insider trading isn't possible, they just don't need to make other announcements until that time comes around.

I'd be a bit disappointed if this was the case, though; situationally, the buyer could get a pretty low offer in and a good bit of the share price was some really bad headwinds specific to the week they stopped trading.

That said, the case in my head is worse: WD pressuring IMEC (either borderline illegally or maybe just illegally) not to sign off on the specs and 4DS pushing back until they get what they want or as close to it as they can. I don't know why people suggest WD would overpay when they are the big hairy brother that has a lot more resources at their disposal to pay as little as possible. Until we see another organisation with their hand messily in the pie, it's a tough spot.
