The more I think about it, the more I think Zijin has dug themselves a hole.
It's very clear by their actions (ignoring AVZs preemptive rights, paying vastly under the odds for the alleged 15 per cent and only a small deposit at that, no official announcement at the time, very brief mention in annual report, arbitration in Paris rather than taking legal action in DRC) that this was an underhand move and that it's failed.
They must be regretting and wondering how to get out of the hole without further trashing their reputation and other business concerns in DRC and Africa more generally.
