The decision the Congolese have, is who they want to work with - a company which represents a country which has partaken in pillaging their country for over 20 years, or a country with a track record of building long term profitable enterprise and long term partnerships. AVZ has demonstrated already its intent to improve the lives of locals, it has already spoken of the potential tax income going to the government indicating it is not prepared to hide real profits behind curtains of legalities as it is now coming out Zijin has. So many millions, and millions, and millions of dollars of what should have been income is simply unable to be accounted for. Do not think it is coincidence that the government is now talking about the importance of mining companies assisting in the supply of electricity to locals - this is something AVZ already has on their operating plan, whilst Zijin has failed to disclose an operating plan to anyone. The people of the DRC remain unfairly impoverished and having their opportunities stripped from them, except for a specific group of people banking with predominantly a single international bank with a branch in Kinshasa. It is no surprise, that 40% of that bank is owned by the ex Prime Ministers sister, shares that were never paid for. It is no surprise, that another family member has a seat on the board of that Congolese subsidiary. This is all finally coming out, thank you Bloomberg. Sorry China. A country is corruptible, but it is the operator of the foreign business that accepts corruption on its books. The alternative is to walk away, and sometimes that is the better alternative. President Felix Tshisekedi is a president who has made it clear he wants corruption gone. He has taken active steps to make this happen at great peril, so half steps now are unlikely. Please explain why you feel the past actions of yesterday undertaken by a different group of people should decide the outcomes of todays government in the DRC?
