To be fair to the Company, what they said on 27 August ann was:

We have received confirmation from the assay laboratory that a significant number of
batches of assay results will be returned in early September. We look forward to being
able to provide further updates to the market upon receipt of the results. ”

My understanding is that they cannot hold back results if they are of material significance.
Whether above or below expectations its hard to argue that these VG results would not be significant.

So it seems more likely to me that the laboratory (presumably in Canada) has run into an unexpected delay.
