You speak as though Simberi is under Australian jurisdiction but is that the case? What is the legal entity owning Simberi? Is it registered in Aus or PNG?
At the very least PNG should be acting because the affected workers are PNG citizens, the mine is in PNG territory and presumably is operated under PNG law.
Nevertheless, SBM management do indeed need to indicate some action in response to these events.
