There is (usually) strength before drilling, so if you want out, this is the only guaranteed opportunity to get out at reasonable prices. If the drilling fails, getting out will be a long, slow, painful process.
On the other hand, if the well is going to be successful, then this is an unusually good opportunity to buy in at very low prices before the inevitable massive re-rating.
The trick is to know which it will be, or in the unfortunate case that your clairvoyance is on the fritz, then you make a judgement on the risk-reward equation and roll the dice.
