Yep, the prospect of 5G is one reason we haven't sold out of TPM.
The fault for the mess lies squarely with Tony Abbot. He tasked Malcolm to destroy the NBN model that Labor was trying with mixed success to implement, and Malcolm did exactly what he was told.
LNP should have kept the plan and argued that they could manage and do it better.
Instead they changed the plan and argued that they could do it cheaper, faster and better. Everyone in IT knows the motto that you can only ever hope to get 2 out of 3 and most of the time you one get 1 of cheaper, faster and better. You never get all three.
It was all to politically point score, to create a point of difference and nothing else.
Some might say this is political and off topic, but it directly impacts Australian technology startups such as FBR.
If FBR was located in NZ, with 400 Mbps and 1 Gbps NBN then their IT&T costs June 30, 2017 to Dec 2018 would have been lower. Not sure about other costs, but absolutely a lack of NBN FTTP and a high CVC charges only makes things more costly in the 21st century for business and therefore harder for all share holders of those businesses and harder for all the employees of those businesses.
