Agree with the above Hokey, but I like to watch my stocks like a hawk and have found that anymore than 6-8 stocks is too much of a time commitment for my schedule. Maybe when I'm retired I'll expand my portfolio, but I find I make better investment decisions when I concentrate my capital and monitor progress intensively.
