Well crafted response.
I do agree that in the FDA are suppose to be impartial and operate at an arm's length. As you stated, 'one arm of the government...is functioning normally'. Reality shows that it is not always the case e.g Monstanto's hold on GM grains is an example of where political influence can impact approvals.
I am simply pointing out the political risk is real, perhaps unusually higher in this case - it is up to people to determine the level of significance of the risk.

As a SH and someone who believes in science and medical research I certainly the outcome is positive for everyone.
