Ok, there was an ex date in the original announcement, it was 27 October.

It subsequently got amended to be 30 October.

This means that you had to have executed a purchase order BEFORE 30 October to be able to participate - ie, you needed to have had a purchase order executed on or before 27 October. Because of the T+2 system, you get "recorded" as a shareholder on the day your trade settles. This means that you get recorded as a shareholder two business days after the purchase order was executed. So purchasing on 27 October means you will be recorded as a shareholder on 31 October and be able to participate.

If you purchased shares yesterday (or today) you won't be entitled to the SPP. Purchasing yesterday means you won't be recorded until tomorrow (ie 1 November) which means you won't be entitled. Hence the shares traded ex-entitlement yesterday.
