Potstock the drugs will generally be subsidised by government and insurance funds. Basically the company has to get returns on investment to try bring these drugs to market so the economics are what they are. You can't expect a company to spend many millions trying to research a drug for rare disease and get $2 a bottle of pills for the 500 people it treats in return.
