Depends on the outcome. There are few and far between cures for cancer other than the knife.
Most treatments delay the spread and death. Thus the OS being most important in trials.
If $85k was good for a cure then, yes many people would find the money. If $85k brings an extra 2 months of OS, then many folks would not pony up the money. Somewhere between a few weeks and a cure, for each individual, there will be a personal pain point.
Secondly there are billions who could not afford the $85k in the first place.
Thirdly, and Wild pointed out, it would present interesting challenges in a randomised trial if ability to pay $85k was a determining factor.
Either medical insurers will fund this, or OSL will have to fund it, IMO
