I think that SI was reluctant to share the raw results with Novartis and initially only shared the same cherry picked post hoc analysis for which he claimed success. That's why it took so long for them to make the decision before they walked away. They had to extract the raw data from the trial bit by bit and when they analysed it themselves they weren't impressed.
