As spid constantly tells you @jumpstart you really need to do some research.

EGR (ecograph) is already doing graphite recycling of the battery anode graphite material.. they have a proprietary system of taking the existing waste material and making it completely usable for the battery making process. This can then be extended for use in old batteries. Granted this doesn’t take out all of the other metals in the batteries. But as you well know, economies of scale will produce a system for recycling those also.

as for hydrogen. For once, I completely agree there will be systems in place that produce hydrogen in a ‘just in time’ format, where it will be produced and used in space, at a car refuelling station perhaps, via green or even carbon negative (Hazer, HZR) way. Electrolysers aren’t the only way of producing hydrogen. In fact Elon Musk described electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen as monumentally dumb, as the energy returned in hydrogen has a maximum efficiency of only 25%.. I.e. 50% energy loss in production electricity to break the bonds and then a maximum efficiency of about 30% for hydrogen fuel cells to recombine with oxygen.

producing hydrogen from waste methane (bio methane) makes much more sense and has been quoted as removing 100t of co2 per 1t of hydrogen produced… time will tell as Hazer finalise their Commercial Demonstration Plant. There are many types of storage that are also coming to the fore as hydrogen storage also. Including graphene lining of tanks.
