I think in the transition to clean energy ecological insignificant structures not important to biodiversity will be easier to develop given the changing paradigm of what happens if we do not develop.
Personally even if PMT had such obstacles , of which it clearly does not, I would think the clearing of such lake systems fairs much more reasonable than using acid to leach out minerals like China and Indonesia do.
