Cadia East was discovered in 1994 but serious drilling of it did not start about 1999 (ie the deep part of the deposit) and first metal was produced in 2012 (yep 18 years after the discovery - one reason was it was delayed was their focus on mining open pit deposits first then Ridgeway (high grade, etc). It was not until they started to drill deep at East Cadia that the resource at Cadia really started to climb. At one stage they were going to do an open pit at Cadia East but abandoned that idea. Cadia East first resource was announced a few years after 1999 (I will have to check but I think it was in 2002 or 2003).

Even though they started drilling Cadia about 1990 it was not until 1993 that they announced the first resource which was 3.4m Oz and took another 3 year as to get to 9.4m Oz. (I am not sure that this included Cu equivalent resources but just gold)

Lets see what first resource ALK comes out with in comparison after 2.7 years since discovery? Should know in next week or so.
It is still very early days in ALK's exploration of NMPP and they still may find lots more resources and a few pleasant surprises.
