agree except the closest commercial equivalant is the "Marie Jeanne" bottle which holds 2.25 litres. Often used for port and known as a Tregnum or Tappit Hen. The 750ml bottle was introduced from the 700ml and 800ml early bottles which were popular because they contain about the right amount of wine for 2 people for dinner. The bigger bottles store the wine at more even average temperature, so Grange and other premium wines could easily be packaged in 2.25l bottles. Besides, after waiting 20 years to drink it, who wants just 750ml, so you secretly drink it without inviting your close friends? Bigger bottles invite more sociable behaviour.
