This is a small piece of good news, when you consider the length of time, and the people and bureaucratic processes that this has had to go through just to get someone to sign a piece of paper. This must have passed through the hands of a hundred public servants by now, and consultants, and environmental lobby groups, and politicians, and just about everyone else who you can imagine.
By the time the PEPR is signed off, it will have taken over 2 years, and will probably be closer to 3, being shuffled from one desk to another, from one bureaucrat to another. The system is virtually unworkable, because we are looking at upward of 6 years to start a mine from the beginning of the process, and by then so many things change, including economics and inflation and technology and executives and governments.
We just can't take any more photo's of huge committees sitting around long boardroom tables, drinking coffee, eating croissants, talking crap, because most of them just want to hear the sound of their own voice because they want to be important, thriving off their own egos. We just can't take anymore of this, than we can take any more photos of smiling politicians - it's making many of us nauseous now.
This is a disappointing process, we have to be able to move these things faster to production in this country, we simply must find a way for world class mining projects, like this one, to be built and into production ASAP.
