Did you know Dr Roy Woodall? I assume you did. Dr Roy Woodall, whilst only one of the team who discovered Olympic Dam, but as far as history is concerned he was the exploration geologist who was credited with the Olympic Dam discovery as well as the Kambalda Nickel discovery near Kalgoorlie.
For those who don't know the story, the Olympic Dam discovery came after drilling of many unsuccessful holes, and the name Olympic Dam came from a watering hole for cattle that was dug out by a pastoralist, and since it was done during the Olympic Games in Melbourne, then he named his water hole 'Olympic Dam'.
Who would've thought that a cattle watering hole would become the name of one of the world's largest copper, gold uranium mines.
