My understanding is that buyers and sellers bids have to be real and that some one offering 1 million odd shares must be real. You can easily test this by buying the shares. Of course in these days of extreme volitility, offers are only as good as the moment shares are offered and my guess is that if the Dow falls tonight the million odd seller will lower his price and and the Dow rises the price will be higher.
I think it is also important to look at trading cultures, traders in oil and diamond stocks are used to high risks, high volitility, and will trade differently to traders of Woolworths (example only) who will be very conservative in their trades.
If there are any spelling mistakes here it's because my poor, ancient, arthritic typing fingers do not press the button that the brain intended and I don't know how to spell check on these posts. Anyway I apologise in advance for any typing errors.
