S32 -4.55%: while the 1H result for South32 was largely inline or better, higher costs and increased capex weighed on investor confidence in the stock today. EBITDA of $US708m was well ahead of the $US657m consensus, while profit of $US53m was in line. Production volume guidance was left unchanged for FY24, however, there were several adjustments (both positive and negative) on the cost side while adding $US20m to finance costs for the year. The company finalised their investment decision in Hermosa, a zinc-lead-silver deposit in Arizona, increasing capex guidance by ~5%, and reducing IRR expectations to 12% – pretty tight for a mining investment.
