I’m involved in a bit of shipping and confirm that pricing and availability of containers is at unprecedented levels. A couple years ago a 40HC out of China was USD 1000 - 1500, now it’s about USD 11,000 if you can get a booking with no end in sight. Out of some ports I can’t get 40’ containers there are only 20’ containers available. Same out of Europe and US. Even a shipping container from Sydney to Fremantle is up about 5-10 times what it was 2 years ago.
Another issue effecting Australia right now is pallet availability. The business I work in uses several thousand pallets a day, and we just can’t get pallets. We are on the brink of stopping factories due to no pallets and this is impacting every business in Australia that uses pallets right now.
