Hopefully we haven't got excited for nothing & with decision looming about whether to again put money into another CR decided we'd send an email to Greg yesterday to clarify more about this test in the USA. We have received a reply back which I will post below. I have a feeling he probably reads this forum but as it answers the question we are all asking here am sure he wont mind as it may stop others pestering him?
Here it is:
I take from your email that for some reason you think that a trial of the CNT enriched concrete in aggregate bins is not a comparable test of the material compared with a test on a road surface.
I cannot answer your question with any quantitative data, but my understanding is that the application that is being tested is indeed a high abrasion test application. As to whether or not it is more or less extreme than a test on any particular road surface, I am unable to say.
In our media release of 12 August 2014 from which you quote, it states that the proposed commercial trials will be on hardened surfaces such as roads. Whilst it refers to roads as an example, it does not state, nor was it intended to mean, that it would certainly be tested on a road.
Further, in the detailed ASX announcement itself of 12 August 2014, it states only that the trials will be on abrasion resistant applications, with no mention of roads at all. The precise wording in the announcement was:
“Field trials of CNT-enriched concrete targeting abrasion resistant applications are planned to be conducted in USA over the next 12-24 months to extend the initial results from cement paste to concrete and to validate the increased strength and suitability for production of abrasion resistant concrete and then for other applications such as high-rise construction.”
The trial was arranged by our US concrete consultant and when the opportunity arose to have a concrete company itself carry it out with its new aggregate bins, we readily accepted. We believe that it is highly suitable test that will provide a very good comparative field trial of the abrasion resistance of CNT enriched concrete compared with ordinary concrete.
I trust that this answers your query.
