I appreciate your leadership role in your posts and would like to add my understanding on this general point.
Been thinking about your post here while out driving today. Have been awarded a couple of best and fairest football players at school and I reckon the terminology should be updated and adapted to suit the particular environment. So totally agree with "playing the ball not the man" but that 'ball' adapts to the thread title- not the stock. So on a particular thread post about the meaning of the thread title as related to the stock.
That is what I like to post about - the stock - the thread title.
Ultimately we are posting under the thread title. So refering to that is simple to understand.
That way the mind is not preoccupied in the background, trying to figure out what games are people playing. Whereas "play the stock" infers some kind of gamesmanship that someone has to win.
Just in the interest of improving on your saying "Play the stock not the person" again, I formulated a saying that could apply to all internet forums;
"post about the thread title, not the poster"
