QUICKSTEP’S FIRST MANUFACTURED AEROSPACE
PARTS CERTIFIED AND FLYING
First aerospace parts manufactured at Quickstep’s Fremantle manufacturing facility are now
installed and flying.
Manufacture of aerospace ‘pods’ used to obtain aerial photographs.
International advanced composites group Quickstep Holdings Limited (ASX: QHL – “Quickstep”) is
pleased to announce that the first aerospace parts manufactured at the Company’s Fremantle manufacturing
facility in Western Australia have received approval and are now installed and flying.
The manufactured parts are two-metre-long carbon fibre composite ‘pods’, which are owned and patented by
the customer and are used to obtain aerial photography as part of its geospatial media business.
Quickstep had responsibility for all aspects of the composite production engineering, tooling, manufacture and
inspection of the pods, which were manufactured using AGATE qualified carbon/epoxy materials from Toray
Composites (America) Inc. and Rohacell foam cores from Evonik Röhm GmbH.
Managing Director of Quickstep, Mr Philippe Odouard, said having the aircraft parts successfully installed and
flying represented an exciting achievement for the Company.
“We are delighted to now have our first manufactured parts approved and flying,” he said. “These pods
provided Quickstep’s aerospace team in Fremantle with an excellent opportunity to ensure the manufacturing
facility was fully prepared for the transition to full scale aerospace manufacturing early next year. Our customer
has stated that he is extremely satisfied with the quality and performance of the items.”
Quickstep is continuing to prepare for aerospace manufacturing at its Australian headquarters in Fremantle,
and is on-track to achieve commercial readiness in February 2009.
The Company’s focus is currently on implementing processes to obtain ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality
standards accreditation, which is an essential requirement for manufacturing. This process is progressing well,
with accreditation expected to be achieved on schedule.
