This is a first for Australia (ionic clay hosted). To be able to take ~800 kg of material and then simply whipped it up into a carbonate concentrate using off the shelf equipment is a rare feat indeed.
However, the proof will be in what AR3’s potential ‘off-take’ partners see. As the announcement states, samples have been sent to their partners so that they can independently confirm the compatibility of the MRE carbonate with their downstream processing techniques. Therefore, I’d suggest that if they like what they see then things may progress rather quickly to up-scale the pilot production. Meanwhile, AR3 can make progress with further test work.
So far, AR3 is showing that it is a real candidate to economically produced rare earth material without the hoo-ha!
