If you are allowed a rant, Aquarius, then so am I.

I am serious and I don't accept the idea that the private sector is inherently efficient, and the public sector is inherently wasteful. Most of the functions of the private sector are completely useless, most people's jobs are meaningless busy work.

My parents and grandparents progressed from public housing to home ownership. Now public housing has shrunk dramatically and we have homeless camps on the outskirts of country towns, at a level we didn't even have in cities a few decades ago. At this rate we will have our own Australian version of Brazil's favelas.

I don't know the exact details, but I am pretty sure that if you look into it closely, much of the Salvation Army's funding comes from the government. The funding submissions department is a vital part of all the community organisations I've encountered. Unfortunately lots of them are also involved in evangelism/indoctrination, and being awful to gay people. Fortunately they are pretty inefficient at those things too, given the same sex marriage vote and the rapid decline in religious belief in Australia.
