SSRIs treat depression by increasing levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is one of the chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) that carry signals between brain nerve cells (neurons).SSRIs block the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin into neurons. This makes more serotonin available to improve transmission of messages between neurons. SSRIs are called selective because they mainly affect serotonin, not other neurotransmitters.The use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) has been associated with the occurrence and worsening of parkinsonism.

The problem with Parkinson's is it seems to be exacerbated by alpha synuclean protein aggregation. Even though PAA have a patent covering Parkinson's. So it's a similar problem with MND ( protein build up in the brain). Both diseases rely on a different pathway to rid said proteins. The studies suggest evidence to support MND , not so much Parkinson's.

There is a lack of data for me to view and make full or prospective comment on whether Parkinson's can be managed by MPL.
