Caesium is more reactive than lithium ,sodium or potassium. The reactivity increases down the table. However, how is that relevant to the cost of Caesium formate? Reaction of any Caesium salt with formic acid will provide the formate. The reactivity of the metal is not relevant as it would be very costly to isolate and due to it's extreme reactivity would be difficult to handle except under an inert atmosphere .

Na and K are both very abundant and easily and cheaply obtained from sources ( seawater , saltpetre etc ) so the formate is cheap also.

Formic acid is very cheap to make also and a major chemical component of many things.

it is the an ability of the formate salts of alkali metals to form a solution with almost no water. water will generally hold 0-100g of a solute per 100ml. Solubility of Caesium formate is about 680g/100ml at 30degC. That's more than triple the quantity of a soluble salt like CsCl. Sodium and potassium formates are not as good. Rubidium is over 900g/100ml at 60degC. Formate alkali salts are also soluble in organic polar and non polar solvents (most metal salts are generally pretty insoluble in anything apart from a water base)
it is these properties that help make these useful as cutting fluids.
