Surprisingly when I did the numbers on Aurizon the other day. Of memory the last 6 months average cost of coal carted was only $6.30 per tonne.
Margin in the USA is a lot higher around 40% but Aurizon had all the usual BS write downs and I don't think they were even 10% they pulled the ebitda bs accounting play that looked good but reality was not.
Rail is expensive to maintain just need loaded trains on it at all times.

In saying all this, if he expands the freight etc it could do well. Australia is just short for population and efficiency.
