Pretty funny using a reddit thread as a source when trying to prove a point. 20% of the 436 Nuclear plants use graphite moderaters. There are advantages and disadvantages of using water, graphite and heavy water as a moderater. But the fact you state graphite is a terrible choice is the telling sign you have an agenda. Carbon has a much lower absorption cross section which is what you ideally want from a moderator. There are currently 60 reactors under construction and another 110 planned in the short term. Regardless of your own personal opinions many of these will use graphite moderaters. The fact is this is a 1.5 billion industry growing at a rate where supply is unable to meet demand, hence the current premium prices.
