If you read the original announcement, it was an MoU with Stanford, which clearly stated the terms of the agreement were to be agreed before proceeding. This is an incredibly important demo plant because:
1. It's on mainland US, which will serve as a 'walk in' demonstration plant to the many significant potential US customers that run sizeable campuses (for example in the vicinity of Stanford are all the Silicon Valley tech company HQ's, learning institutions, hospitals, etc)
2. Stanford is one of, if not the, pre-eminent educational institution in the world where leading innovative products with world changing applications are birthed and brought to life in the real world. Stanford has access to leading educational minds and deep connections with industry and the finance (VC and traditional) to see these technologies actually succeed. There is no better place that understands the development and commercialisation of new technologies than Stanford.
I'm very happy for "another demo plant" to be set up in mainland US, as each demo plant is very important part in the buying process for large and sophisticated customers. So I treat the location and calibre of the demo plant partner as being a very important lead indicator for future sales. Not sure how you imagine they're going to magically pull sales out of their hat without these demo plants?
