Really. I purchased my first nVidia GPU back in 1999 - a Riva TNT2 Ultra.
Sales were off the charts back then - nVidia has just stolen the GPU crown from 3DFX - did you get the year wrong?.
Looking at nVidia's share price since Jan 1999, I don't see anything like a slump in price until 2008 - and I'm pretty sure the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 might have been more to do with that than nVidia's accounting practices.
