Jack Dorsey has flagged adding social media to Block’s Cash App as it looks to use Afterpay’s retailer referral service to become a “contextual commerce” platform that alerts people to buy things from retailers close to where they are.
Block CFO Amrita Ahuja brushed aside market concerns about higher bad debts at Afterpay, saying they remain similar to historical averages. Growth is being restrained to ensure creditworthy customers are brought on, and she pointed to consumer spending in the United States holding up in April..
