Amcor and AVON launch shower gel refill pouch in China
    14 MAY 2024

Amcor and cosmetics company AVON have announced the launch of the AmPrima Plus refill pouch for the AVON Little Black Dress classic shower gels in China, aiming to reduce carbon footprint and water consumption.
The companies claim that compared to the legacy container, the new AMPrima Plus pouch will result in an 83% reduction in carbon footprint; and an 88% and 79% reduction in water consumption and renewable energy when recycled, according to a carbon footprint comparison with Amcor’s ASSET lifecycle assessment system, certified by the Carbon Trust.
In line with AVON’s ambition to use 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging material for its products by 2030, it partnered with Amcor’s research and development teams to design and develop their first refill pouch with ‘recycle-ready’ material.
The companies say the AmPrima refill pouch is designed to provide a more ‘sustainable’ packaging solution that delivers the barrier properties, stiffness, graphics performance and run speeds of unrecyclable alternatives, while also providing convenience to consumers.

AVON recently accelerated its sustainability goals to also use 50% recycled content by 2030 for all plastic used (in weight) and help enable collection schemes in key markets.
Abby Deng, marketing head of AVON China, said: “Our collaboration with Amcor, a global leader in packaging, is truly transformative. By integrating a refill format with a recycle-ready film material, we’ve innovated a fresh refill pack for our iconic AVON Little Black Dress shower gels.”
The 350ml refill pack for AVON’s Little Black Dress classic shower gel is now available in China. AVON and Amcor teams are working on the Shimmer Shower gel anticipated to launch later this year and a number of planned ‘recycle-ready’ solutions.
In March, Capri Sun Group unveiled a recyclable mono-polypropylene pouch. The new design is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 25% compared to its previous design and support the brand’s mission to adopt fully recyclable packaging.
Last month, Siegwerk announced it had applied its CIRKIT functional coatings to a mono-PE bag developed alongside Windmöller & Hölscher and B&B, aiming for a high-barrier, fully recyclable packaging solution for dry pet food. The bag is said to offer the same packaging performance as complex multi-material alternatives, while also claiming to offer full recyclability.
