As mentioned in the announcement, small pieces of blue sapphire and flakes of gold were also found. This could mean alluvial gold is present, i.e. it might be reasonable to assume this find is located in an ancient river bed (or lake?) formation, which might indicate there is more to be found. In any case, given how diamonds are formed, it would be interesting to see if the actual source of the diamonds can be determined, since it might very well be a kimberlite pipe.
Of course its all pie-in-the-sky, but it does make me wonder.
BTW, management aside, a find is a find. So Despite the risks, which are always present, people need to take the find on its merits, rather than be overly influenced by past perceived failures.
