Intel Capital chief Arvind Sodhani: "We need more start-ups"
Intel Capital is the biggest venture capital investor in the world and, some would say, quite possibly the best. Since it started in 1991 it has backed more than 1,100 companies with almost $10bn (£6.3bn) of cash throughout 48 countries.

"In terms of scale we probably are the biggest and most prolific investor in the world, having invested in more companies than anyone else,"
As with other VCs, Intel strives for "home run" investments – those companies that deliver three to four figure returns and make their venture backers look smarter than the chasing pack.
Intel sees value in supporting promising software and hardware technology companies, not least because the more technology consumed around the world the more high-speed semi-conductor chips it can sell.

The company (Intel) also brought together 24 venture capital funds to pledge to invest $3.5bn in American technology companies within two years. One year on and Intel has invested its $200m chunk already. Sodhani says the funding initiative called "Invest in America", had the desired impact.
