Not necessarily. You can't believe everything you're told in an unsolicited phone call made to any company (publicaly-listed or not).
It's possible that what you've been told is completely accurate however, regardless of the actual situation, you would have been unlikely to have been told anything on the phone other than a story along the lines of what has already been announced ...
