Onto the issues you raised, I believe the tech is proven (patented and signed licensing agreement); market is proven (Google "IoT projected growth", that should be a good starting point for your learning). I do agree that the solution is not proven to be "relevant" at this stage, and THAT is the big question remaining.

On Lisa, it sounds like she just left to do her own thing. I assume you have read about people who have quit their job and started their own companies.
