Storing Hydrogen for transport as Ammonia is the purpose of the CSIRO membrane invention.
A Tanker of Hydrogen has about 1.6 times the energy of LPG however a tanker of Ammonia has many times the energy of a tanker of Hydrogen once coverted back to Hydrogen after being put through the CSIRO Membrane.
So Ammonia is the storage substance.
As better for the environment angle large scale ammonia production has Methane as the feed source so the old thermal coal deposits will become useful again and stop that Methane finding its way to the atmosphere. Maybe powered by solar and wind?
