Yeah the US has dominated helium production for decades although now maybe depleting their reserves of helium to a degree. If you go back to WW2 the US had a monopoly on helium so prohibited sales to Germany to prevent them using it for military purposes. Maybe the reason the Hindenburg was using hydrogen.
