I doubt they'd be wasting the water. Not sure where the stuff de-watered from the underground was put but in they end they'll look to conserve water with lower salt, cyanide and alkali (probably carbonate). Maybe in the tailings dam for recycle if necessary.
It's often unappreciated but miners are nearly as solicitous of their fresh (sweet) water as farmers. (Don't mention that to the greens though. It's heresy and could cause them to choke on their quinona).
