There are usually 14,000 registrations per day, but this week it peaked at 260,000 for a day. The largest spike in the past year by far.

Projects posted per 24 hours on the other hand were as usual at about 5000.

So there was some kind of great coverage or some reason to get people to register, but not to post projects. Maybe bids on projects would have spiked likewise, but I don't have those numbers.

The confusing thing though, is that while registrations spiked from 14k to 260k, users online at any one time was flat at about 12k. I can't explain that, unless people were required to re-register (unlikely) or they registered then just logged in for a few minutes, unlike the long-term members who may stay online for hours. The 260k daily spike could potentially create a slight uptick in long-term logins, rather than an immediate significant increase.
